Rendezvous inside the Municipal Cave – Hiding-place through the centuries
Rendez-Vous inside the Municipal Cave offers a theme tour through the Municipal Cave (‘Gemeentegrot’) in Valkenburg, named ‘Hiding-place through the centuries’.
During this 1.5 hour long guided tour, you will be taken to the underground world of the Municipal Cave (‘Gemeentegrot’), but in a very unusual way! This time, the Municipal Cave is approached as a hiding-place during times of war, which is how local inhabitants used it for centuries.
The new theme tour travels back in time chronologically, from the present to the past. You will visit, among others, a nuclear fallout shelter from the cold war, an area to hide from the Second World War and a chapel to take shelter from the French Revolution.
Guided tours are organised on request for a minimum of 6 people. For individual visitors, there are individual tours a couple of times per month.
During the summer (Saturday, July 11 until Sunday, August 30), guided tours (not on request) are organised every Saturday and Sunday at 12:00 and 15:00.
Evening tour. During the summer, there is an evening tour every Friday night at 19:45, from Friday, July 17 until Friday, August 28. Starting for this evening tour is 7:45.
